2023-05-20 the road to Kings Canyon
3 weeks today since we hit the road, and we have seen and done so much! Only 15 weeks to go 🙂
This morning Bob and I got up early and made the half an hour trip to the sunrise viewing location for Uluru – we had been lazy the last couple of mornings when both of our travelling couples have made the trip while we stayed warm inside. It was so worth the frozen fingers!
We were back to camp by 8am and packed by 9 where we all met and started the 300km leg to Kings Canyon.
We stopped for lunch at Kathleen Springs and did the short hike to the springs. A great way to stretch the legs and get a lovely view as well.
Then the short hop to Kings Canyon Resort. After setting up we all headed out for a recon around the park, shop, tavern and sunset bar – no bikes this time, on foot, although Karen is keen to ride to tomorrow’s hiking locations.
The sunset bar was so my scene! Literally everything I enjoy – quality live music, outdoor bar setting watching sunset on the ridge, and friends to share the experience with. It was a little cool and breezy, but nothing a beanie couldn’t address…
We watched the sunset and headed back for dinner once the music finished. We will definitely be back tomorrow for a repeat performance. Another light show in front of the bar topped off another great afternoon.
Tomorrow we plan to complete a few hikes around Kings Canyon. Looking forward in particular to the Rim Walk.
