2023-05-23 An Adventurous Day
This morning Karen and I decided that we’d bike the 34km return to Roma Gorge. The boys weren’t interested in riding so they came along in our car for the gorge hike. Things were going well for the first 3km of dirt, the second 5km of tar, but the final river bed stony ride into the gorge was a different matter! For anyone that knows my riding ability, I took the sensible option and locked the bike to a tree while Karen continued her ride. After about 1.5km of walking, the support crew showed up with no seats available in the car! (we have tubs of gear stored in the back of the vehicle to manage van weight limits). So then began the next phase of my adventure…standing on the tailgate of the car for 5km of 4WDing to the gorge. So much fun!

Karen arrived just before we did and we did the short hike into the gorge, which had heaps of aboriginal petroglyphs (etchings). A worthwhile trip.

We headed back (me on the back of the car and Karen riding) until we found my bike again and Karen and I completed the trip back to camp for lunch.
This afternoon we headed to Redbank Gorge. We had heard that the gorge was worth exploring further upstream but the water is too cold for swimming, so Karen doubled up and carried our 15kg inflatable kayak 2.5km into and out of the gorge! She is a machine.

The gorge was magical. And we were lucky enough to have it to ourselves. We all had a turn on the kayak (even Bob) and really enjoyed some time in there (especially Karen’s emu dance 🙂 ).

Another great day! Tomorrow we move a short distance up the road to Ellery Gorge where we will catch back up with Jase and Sue.
Kieran has completed his Youtube update for week 2 of our travels. For anyone interested while having a cuppa, the link is below (12 mins).

This day looks like sooooo much fun. Also very glad you opted for the walk and ride. Safer than a bike for you.
It really was! And yes, sometimes I can be sensible…..the stakes are high when I need to stay mobile for the next 14 weeks and one little bike mishap can end it all.
