2023-05-27 Palm Valley
So we are 4 weeks into our adventure! Some fun stats for anyone that knows my addiction to numbers…. We have travelled 4850km and spent 22 nights off grid. There have been 3 earrings lost (all Karen – I have found someone worse than me at hanging on to earrings). We are not counting the dollars spent on diesel, but can confirm the highest price paid was $2.84 per litre at Glen Helen. The coffee there was only slightly more expensive 🙂 .
Tyre deflations and reinflations (times 6, for all the wheels per rig) is currently sitting at 8 (or 16 ups and downs per vehicle). This number will sit for a while while we head north on the black top.
Mitcho’s Mintie investment sitting at approximately $35 – Bob is an addict and needs to be kept supplied while driving, especially on the offroad stuff.
Gorge count sitting at 8 (with 3 explored by kayak). This may also not change for a while until we hit the Kimberley later in the trip.
Today we drove to Palm Valley where a pocket of palm trees naturally exist far away from anything else in Australia. Scientists best guess is that indigenous people from different areas used the seeds to trade and this area is well suited to sustaining the species. We had a very informative talk and walk with the park ranger before embarking on a 5km loop walk over the ridge.

Tomorrow we are cutting our stay short and heading to Alice Springs to address some electrical maintenance on the van while Karen and Kieran stay on. We’ll catch back up in a couple of days.

Lovely photos as usual Kerri and enjoyed the stats. Any climate figures to share?
Thanks Louise. Haven’t really been tracking the climate, other than our warmest day has been around 25 degrees and coldest night about 1 degree.
I like the way you keep track of things.Keep up the good work
