Before I jump into this morning’s amazing cruise, back to the mozzie infestation of last night. Thankfully my laptop was flat when it was time to blog so I charged it on the car auxiliary battery (as the van batteries were working their freckle out managing the fridge/freezer in the high temps), when I realised I might as well sit in the car so the blog could happen….so may as well turn the car on and sit in A/C 🙂 . We had a hot night with fans running all night. It was mozzieargedon inside everyone’s vans except ours until our 540 alarm went off and we opened the fly screens to shut the windows… Infestation complete we headed off for the cruise.

The 2 hour cruise was amazing. Sunrise, birds, crocodiles and a wealth of information from our captain made the morning fly by. We were circled by a large croc, watched eagles dive and retrieve fish, watched waterbirds fish (and then eat live fish significantly larger than the diameter of their necks), and most lovely was watching lily hopping Jesus bird chicks getting their skills while Dad hovered nearby. So many crocodiles – maybe we should have stayed further from the water last night on our recon walk?

We went back to camp for brekky and decided we weren’t up for the mozzies, heat and humidity for the day so packed up and headed 10km up the road to the Cooinda Resort. No mozzies, a beautiful resort pool, happy hour at the bar and pizzas….we were set! The day was spent cooling off in the pool and enjoying the resort facilities. We all rode 2km to the Cultural Centre this afternoon and commented that it was the best information we had seen on the trip so far! Pizza’s, beer, wine and good company rounded out a thoroughly enjoyable day.

Tomorrow we move further into Kakadu. We have been limited in what we can see due to the waterfalls being shut – ranger staffing means the crocs aren’t cleared yet to allow access.
