This morning we had a relaxed departure as we didn’t have a big travel day planned. The day was heating up as we headed for another swim at the resort before jumping in the vehicles. Our planned campground for this evening had reviews that were concerning after our mozzie experience a couple of days ago so we reorganised the day and stopped at Jabiru instead. We are still struggling to acclimatise to the 35 degree heat with high humidity, so back to the resort pool at the new park to chill for a while before heading out for the later part of the afternoon.

We drove the 40ish km to Cahills Crossing, a tidal crossing between Kakadu and Arnhem Land. We watched as 4wds navigated the crossing….the crocodiles watched too (we saw at least 2). The water was very murky and we were surprised when a commodore got towed through the water! There are so many signs warning of the crocodile danger and that there has been a fatal attack at this location, but it didn’t stop people on the other side of the crossing standing way too close!

We then headed to the Ubirr rock art site (via the Border shop for an ice block). This Aboriginal art is far more intricate than the art we have seen to date on the trip.

Then I continued to melt as we walked up to the lookout over Arnhem Land as the sun moved low in the sky. Beautiful views, and so green. Bob climbed the lookout really well. I’m sure this rock traversing must be good for his rehab 🙂 .

Tomorrow we have another casual departure planned to allow for some extra exploring to be squeezed in before heading towards Darwin for tomorrow night.
