This morning Karen, Jason and Sue went out to see some more rock art, while Kieran exercised and we went for an explore around Jabiru. We saw our first evidence of the monsoon season water management – not a single house had roof gutters.

We all hit the road around 10 with the first stop at the Mamukala Wetlands. We saw some more chicks lily hopping (too small for the camera) and lots of lilies.

Next stop was the South Alligator River – named by an explorer that mis-identified the crocodiles as alligators. The flow there was phenomenal! We watched in awe as 4 crocodiles floated down the river. I think I find crocs in rivers more confronting than in wetlands for some reason. No idea why.

We stopped for lunch on the banks of the Mary River then continued on towards Darwin. A quick stop at the largest termite mound we’ve ever seen!

34 degrees and muggy as, we arrived at our campground about 15km out of Darwin. We all set up and scooted into the city to get our tourist information fix. Unfortunately it shut about 2 mins before we got there. We then all walked the Waterfront Precinct – a very nicely done area of parks, water recreational areas and restaurants on the water. I decided the sunset was going to be a good one so we hot footed it over to Mindil Beach and got there just in time to see the sun set over the water. A busy but fun day.

Tomorrow we all have maintenance on our rigs booked in (service, repairs, new tyres). Back to being tourists tomorrow afternoon.
