2023-06-14 Lake Argyle
We left Victoria River by 8 this morning for the 300km drive to Lake Argyle. Excitingly (for me) the boab trees started appearing before we reached the WA border.
After around 250km we hit the border and the quarantine station where all fresh food we hadn’t eaten was confiscated. The plan was to stock up at the store at Lake Argyle when we arrived.
Along with losing our food at the border, we gained time… so much of it. Our phones instantaneously moved back 1.5 hours and the two-way radio was filled straight away with concerns over when we would have lunch 🙂 . With our gaining of time, we were at the resort at Lake Argyle by 11am, which gave us plenty of time to set up, have a swim in the infinity pool, and explore for the afternoon (turns out the ‘store’ has about 2 apples, 1 pear and no effective fresh food at all, so we’ll be hanging for Kununurra in a few days).
Lake Argyle is the second largest man made reservoir in Australia and was built to support the Ord River irrigation and hydro electric systems. We all headed out independently to get our bearings this afternoon. We drove across the dam wall and found the hydro outlets pumping!
Back to camp with more swimming, some later afternoon droning, sunset watching, live music at the bar, BBQ for dinner and another round of GREED played. Jason played the conservative round and it paid off. He is officially the greediest this time.
Tomorrow is all about the lake. Kayaking in the morning and a sunset cruise in the evening. Signing off from one of the longest days I’ve had…

Great photos again! But who was paid to come up with the slogan for WA … ” a great place”! Surely something more enlightening could be crafted by a few comms people putting their heads together!
Haha, I do agree Louise!
