So today we have hit 8 weeks on the road. Some truly amazing experiences that we will remember forever. It’s not all roses despite the curated blog. An update on the stats from the first 4 weeks…

We have travelled 9920km. As I mentioned earlier in the blog, we aren’t specifically tracking amount spent on fuel, but the new record cost is $2.90/L at Warmun Roadhouse (only displacing Marree by 1c/L). Number of snapped UHF aerials is 2 (both the Mitcho’s – no idea how we manage that, but have now got a stash of spares in the car ready for the next off-road stint). Number of pairs of lost sunnies is 1 – Kerri special. Jason nearly joined the club but redeemed himself before he reached full membership. Leaking air mattresses = 1 – Scott’s get this guernsey. Mitcho’s Mintie investment has slightly slowed down – currently sitting at approx $63 (we do share when others are in the car). Lost earrings still sitting at 3 – Karen is doing much better on this front. Cloudy days = 1. Rain days = 1 (if you count 10 mins of drizzle when cooking meals at the outdoor kitchens a rain day). However, this may be about to change! Nights spent off grid is 36. This number is higher for Karen and Kieran but we’ve decided to take the soft option where power is available so we can use the A/C to keep cool. Fires we’ve lost count of cause it’s been too hot for fires since Bitter Springs. Smashed olive oil bottles = 1, all over the floor of Jase and Sue’s motorhome…

My observations at this point of the trip – 2 months is a long time for 2 people to live in such a confined space. I always said it would make us or break us….we aren’t broken yet 🙂

Back to normal transmission now…. this morning we all rode and met at Gantheaume Point to find those dinosaur footprints at low tide. We should have checked, but the low tide wasn’t low enough.

It was a lovely morning to be out, though. Jase and Sue continued into town and hit the markets while the rest of us rode back to the vans along Cable Beach. The sand is so hard due to the massive tides that it was quite easy to ride the 6km along the sand.

We all did our own thing for the rest of the morning and met back up this afternoon for some time on the beach – the first time we’ve driven the car on sand. It was a gentle introduction due to it being so firm.

Jase and Sue had booked a sunset camel ride so we watched them walking along the waterfront from a distance.

Tonight we all headed to the Tavern for a really yummy garlic bread and pizza meal – shouted by Jase and Sue before they leave us in a few days. We rolled back to the vans completely full after analysing the upcoming weather system from all angles. In the end we can’t change what will happen – however we are hoping the impact on us will be minimal.

Brekky is planned for tomorrow on the beach up near Gantheaume Point.
