This morning Karen and Kieran headed out early to explore on their bikes. We elected to get out and knock off the largish shopping list before the influx of travellers arrived to strip the shelves. After a successful expedition we were free to explore around town from late morning. We headed out to Ivanhoe Crossing and spent some time photographing and droning. A very different crossing to those we have completed on the Gibb, with a much higher flow and a concrete road.

Next stop was at the Zebra Rock Stonecraft gallery. Zebra rock is mined only within a 25km radius of Kununurra and is found nowhere else in the world. I came away with a lovely little cheese knife from that visit 🙂 . There was a really cool orchard at the Zebra Rock place – all the properties along this road utilise the Ord River irrigation canals and the produce looked amazing!

Back to Kununurra for some lunch and into the Mirima National Park. We were very lucky that even though the temps were reaching into the mid 30’s, a whopping big cloud gave us some shade for the hike which made the climb to the top much more palatable. The natural rock structures reminded me a lot of the Purnululu domes but without the hours of corrugations to get there.

Tomorrow we head out for an Ord River cruise which we booked before we left home. We are very much looking forward to it. Kieran plans to do Kununurra Park Run beforehand and those of us not interested in that (read me!) will check out the local markets.
