2024-09-23 Angkor Ban
This morning we finally acted on the fact we have been eating and drinking far more than at home and exercising less and Bob and I went for a walk around the track on the top deck of the boat before breakfast. Too little, too late…..
Our last tour on the cruise this morning was to Angkor Ban. We moved to shore in the boat and rafted up to another cruise ship. Then a fun walk through it to get to shore.
Angkor Ban village has a very heavy Buddhist population. We were taken to the local temple where we received a Buddhist blessing from the monks.
Then it was a walk through the village where some of the stilt houses are over 100 years old and are the traditional Khmer style. One of the few locations where they weren’t destroyed during the Pol Pot regime.
We went to the local English school where students spend an hour a day with an English teacher. We all sat with the students where they questioned us on our favourite things, read some English to us (and we helped when they needed a little prompting). We then had a lesson with various nationalities from our tour going through the sentences on the board so the children could hear various accents and finally some singing in English. Such a lovely morning.
This afternoon we have relocated to our final location before we disembark tomorrow. Unfortunately the plastic waste in the Mekong is so much worse as we head further upstream. We are hearing it is so much better than before, but there is still a long way to go.
We spent the afternoon having one last relax. Sandra and Glenn went for a massage that they booked a few days ago and it seemed the rest of the boat headed to the pool for a swim in the humidity. We were all enjoying the cooling off when the torrential rains began…no point getting out at this point 🙂 – except the earthing engineer hot-tailed it out of the water once the thunder started…..
Thunder storm over we all went back in the water and enjoyed beer, wine, smoothies and cocktails and far too many photos 🙂 (all on Sandra’s phone and it’s way too late to get them from her tonight so maybe some can get included tomorrow). Our last dinner on the boat tonight was a table for 14 with lots of laughs and one final swim in the pool afterwards. A great way to end our 9 nights on the Mekong.
