Today was another mostly travel day. We woke early again, packed and headed off just after sunrise. It is Karen and Kieran’s 30th wedding anniversary today, so we were privileged to share their reminiscing with them.

Brekky before sunrise

A short stop at Wilcannia followed by our first serious dirt roading for the trip. The drive in to Mutawintji is 80km of gravel so we had our first go at deflating tyres to some set pressures…..and then reinflating them when we were too enthusiastic with those pressures. All in the learning curve.

Lunch beside the road (no cars came past) where we collected fallen wood and strapped to the A frame for a superb toasty campfire tonight. Life is good!

Great spot for lunch
Thanks to Karen for some of the photos today….

  1. Looks fantastic. Any water in the river at Mutajinte? We went during the drought (July 2019?) and walked on riverbed. Took the road from Broken Hill with the Camry so was good the road was dry! Have fun!

    1. No the river is dry now too. Yes I’m sure! There was so much dust along the road – the car and van are coated but so far staying dust free.

  2. Happy Anniversary to Karen & Kieren for 1st May … Happy Birthday to Karen for 2nd May. May she enjoy another alcoholic beverage by a warm campfire.
Photos are wonderful – looks very dry & dusty.
