2023-05-04 Broken Hill
We spent today in and around Broken Hill. A chilly 5 degrees this morning and we all headed out to the Line of Lode memorial lookout which overlooks the city. We spent some time perusing the memorial to those who have lost their lives mining in the area over the previous 100+ years. We can be so glad that safety standards are what they are today…

A quick photo on the big park bench before we headed in different directions for the day.

Bob and I stayed in town and did some prep work for the next little while off grid. We spent a couple of hours at the railway museum which was particularly interesting as Bob’s dad was a steam train driver many years ago.
We decided not to accompany Karen and Kieran to Silverton as we have been there before. In their words they are “fullfillng a lifetime dream to see the Australian outback!”

After replenishing stocks for a week or so, this afternoon we all headed out to the solar farm just out of town. For those engineers reading, it has over 650,000 solar PV modules with a generation capacity of 53MW. Solar panels as far as the eye could see!
We then headed to the Living Desert to take in the sunset at the sculptures and enjoy some cheese and bickies as the air temp dropped very quickly. A very pleasant evening.

Wonderful Kerri! Looks like a great start to your adventure! Glad to see Bob was able to climb up on that park bench!
Yes. So far it’s been wonderful.
Not hard to imagine that it was harder for me to get on the bench than Bob…..
