2023-08-23 Larc Paradise Tour

2023-08-23 Larc Paradise Tour

Today was a very full day! We headed off this morning to the approximately 60km Larc tour of the coastline up to Bustard Point Lighthouse. After a slight hiccough to proceedings we were on our way. We have seen an abundance of birdlife, a turtle, a whale, a stingray, a sea snake, and dolphins all in the ridiculously clear water. The amphibious Larc was a very cool way to get around on both the sand and water crossings. After morning…

2023-08-22 Bi (or Tri) Athlon Day

2023-08-22 Bi (or Tri) Athlon Day

We didn’t have any set plans for today. The Scott’s started the day with a bike ride before we were even up. After a relaxed brekky we all headed out for a 5.5km walk along the beach towards Agnes Water and back on the cycleway. Some really cool driftwood along the beach. We came back and I started chipping away at getting the red dust off the outside van seals so we can sell it as soon as we get…

I still think the name of this town is weird. Who has a number as their town name? Although I do understand it’s significance….. Today was a bit of travel and a bit of exploring. We moved about 270km down the road and there wasn’t a lot to see other than along the river for brekky at Rockhampton. We have set up at our sites at 1770 (it’s easier to write it this way, even though it’s wrong) and have…

2023-08-20 Down Day

2023-08-20 Down Day

Today was a very relaxing Sunday. We all had a slow start and then Bob and I started our day’s activities and never got more than 5km from the van. The Scott’s headed further afield. We hiked to the top of Bluff Point, kayaked in Causeway lake, relaxed in the hammock, and enjoyed a sunset 7km walk along Shoal Bay. Karen and Kieran headed to Capricorn Caves about 50km up the road before spending some time canoeing in Byfield National…

2023-08-19 Emu Park

Well, here we are 16 weeks since we left on our trip, and our last 4 weekly update before we are back home in 2 weeks. We have travelled 17,020 km, spent 5 nights in a swag and 79 nights living off our battery system. Even though we are now back in civilisation, demand for sites means we are missing out on connecting to power more often than not. Mintie supplies are back on track, however we have become connoiseurs…

2023-08-18 East Coast

2023-08-18 East Coast

We have finally completed the traverse from West to East! We left Broome on Friday the 7th of July and arrived at Yeppoon today. Such diverse countryside between the two coasts. One observation is that there is waaayy too much traffic in Rockhampton. So many traffic lights and until yesterday in Emerald they were very foreign to us. It was another 300km drive today. The Scott’s peeled off early this morning with their van and had brekky at the lake…

2023-08-17 Emerald

Another travel day today. I won’t lie, I’m sick of the one night stopovers. Thankfully tomorrow we will park up at Yeppoon for 3 nights and we will have completed the traverse of the country from Broome to Rockhampton in the last 6 weeks. We were on the road by 8 again for the 300km drive to Emerald. A few stops later and we were at Emerald for a late lunch. As has become custom, the Scott’s were out on…

2023-08-16 Barcaldine (by Bob)

2023-08-16 Barcaldine (by Bob)

A short 100km day today moving to Barcaldine after some tourist activities in Longreach.  Kerri and I went to the Qantas museum to do the tour of the aircraft that we missed out on in 2021. It was an interesting tour of airliners from the 1940s to today.  Karen and Kieran went to the Stockman’s hall of fame for the extended tour that included live shows and really enjoyed it.  We travelled independently to Barcaldine, and we both stopped to…

2023-08-15 Longreach

We were on the road by 8 this morning which meant we were in Longreach and unhitched by 1030, leaving plenty of time for exploring. Karen and Kieran got the bikes down and proceeded to spend the rest of the day out and about on them. Bob and I took the ‘we’re not riding, it’s 32 degrees’ approach and headed out in the car. We refamiliarised ourselves with the town and headed out to the Stockman’s Hall of Fame –…

2023-08-14 Winton

We headed out of Mary Kathleen this morning and started the lengthy trek (415km) towards Winton. We are passing back through Winton after an extended stay here 2 years ago so don’t plan on staying more than 1 night. We stopped at McKinlay where we visited the pub from the original Crocodile Dundee movie while Bob and Kieran replaced and rewired our caravan plug into the car which had disconnected a couple of hundred km before and had dragged along…
