Today was officially the start of our trek! We left last night after a lovely family get together at our daughter’s place and headed to Muswellbrook where Karen and Kieran had had their last family goodbyes. A super early getaway this morning with a few interesting stops along the way – pie shop at Merriwa, leg stretch at Gilgandra where we found an interesting history of the ‘Cooee’ march to Sydney recruiting for the First World War. A lovely stop for lunch on the shore of the Bogan River at Nyngan, and then the relatively short hop to Cobar where Karen and Kieran rode to the top of the lookout and we all took in the sights of a working copper mine.

Tomorrow is another early start for our next long travel day where we will spend a couple of nights at Mutawintji National Park.
