2023-05-16 Uluru

Today was a day we will all remember! Of the six of us, only one has ever been to Uluru – and that was me on a family flying holiday back in 1985.

Thanks to our long travel day yesterday, we had a much reduced time spent in the car today. Only one stop along the way at the Mt Connor lookout and nearby salt lake.

We arrived at the Yulara campground before lunch and set up. As is becoming our usual process, we all headed out on a bike ride around the resort to get our bearings and pick up some fruit and salad after having to run stocks down to enter the state yesterday. Then some of us headed to the Cultural Centre down near the base of the rock, and others (read me) were too worried about getting a prime position for sunset viewing so ditched the Centre to stake our claim. Cultural Centre will fit into my schedule for tomorrow.

It was such an amazing sight watching the colours change on the rock over a couple of hours. Some of the best colour was after the sun was well and truly set. An absolute highlight of our trip so far.

I took so many photos of the changing light that it was easiest to do a time lapse stitch.

We have booked into a few tours over the next couple of nights so I stacked more into my photography afternoon and went out again after dinner to see how some astrophotography would go. I’m a bit rusty, but it was still fun.

Tomorrow we are all riding around the base of Uluru in the morning, and some of us have an outdoor meal and cultural experience booked for tomorrow night. Another busy day.
