2023-06-02 Swimming x 3
Today was a swimming day. Given how much the temperatures have risen in the last few days of travel, I am sort of ok with the 31 degrees today. Humidity hasn’t fully disappeared for the dry season yet so I’m happy that the crocs have departed and the springs are good to go 🙂 .
The Scott’s and Mitcho’s got up for sunrise and floated down Bitter Springs (x2) again. The mist on the water was lovely and we had the place to ourselves for most of it (see photo at top). A relaxed brekky and we all headed to Mataranka Springs at the Homestead. The springs here are completely different to Bitter Springs – whereas Bitter Springs is a natural waterway, Mataranka is a constructed pool around the springs. The water temp is 34 deg at both and it is exceedingly pleasant. Mataranka Springs flows from the aquifer layer at over 30 million litres per day.

After replenishing supplies this afternoon we all headed back to Bitter Springs for a sunset float down the water. We have all decided to stay an extra night here and chill more tomorrow before heading to Kakadu. Campfire number 18 tonight and no beanies required!

Looks like paradise. Great to see a turtle
It really is. There have been a few turtle sightings which was exciting!
Oh wow the color of the water is amazing. Think you all deserve the extra day of relaxation.
The colour is unbelievable! We are planning to stop in here again on our way back to Queensland at the end of the trip 🙂
I’ve finally joined your travels, Phil reminded me of the website address!!! Looks fantastic – I remember the beautiful water at Bitter Springs ????
Hi Karen. Yes so relaxing here. So glad we added it to the itinerary.
