We put the bike rack on the car last night and took our bikes into Darwin while the car was serviced this morning. Seemed like a good idea at the time…we ended up riding 16km around town and those last hills in 34deg heat with humidity thrown in made us really appreciate our e-bikes sitting in the garage at home.

We rode along the Darwin Harbour front which was dotted with information relating the bombings in the Second World War. Interestingly Darwin has 8m tides and we were there at high tide with the trees under water to their crowns (see photo at top).

We headed to the Royal Flying Doctor museum which was a combination of RFDS history and virtual reality displays of the Darwin bombing. Really interesting.

We rode in the heat of the day back to get the car and then caught up with Jase and Sue for lunch at the Irish pub in town. The others all went go kart racing but Bob and I sat it out as it doesn’t really fit with Bob’s blood thinning regime. Sounds like everyone enjoyed it.

We all headed back to the markets at Mindil Beach. A crazy number of people! Dinner on the beach watching the sunset was the place to be.

Bob and I are thoroughly exhausted after our ride in the heat. An early night ahead. We have another full day in Darwin tomorrow before moving on.
