2023-08-07 Nitmiluk National Park
We have now been on the road for 100 nights! 71 of those have been powered via our battery system (and generator when the sun won’t shine). We have learned heaps about existing sustainably with limited amp hours, and what we are prepared to use them on 🙂 . Since our solar blanket purchase in Broome, power conservation basically hasn’t been required.
This morning we all agreed to be driving out of the free camp by 730 to ensure we got a park at Leliyn (Edith Falls). I didn’t set the alarm as I am an early waker, but I didn’t fully factor in yesterday’s 1.5 hour time zone change. I woke at 721 and we were driving at 738 – only 8 minutes later than planned. I guess our body clocks thought we were driving just after 6am, so that makes me feel a bit better.
We ate breakfast at the base and then spent a lovely few hours hiking and exploring the multi-layered falls and pools. The morning was very pleasant, however these probably don’t sit at the top of the waterfall list after our time along the Gibb, despite being very lovely.

Notice how tanned Karen is getting from living the outdoor life up here. Me, well I can confidently say my crocs tan is progressing well 🙂 . I would share but the feedback has been harsh…
We then backtracked the 90km through Katherine and set up at Nitmiluk (Katherine Gorge) camp ground for 3 nights. We have gotten our bearings and spent some time exploring. We finished off the day at the resort pool.
Tonight we have set up streaming on the tv so Bob can watch the Matilda’s match against Denmark. Karen and Kieran are madly packing and prepping for their 2 day canoeing adventure through the gorges starting first thing in the morning. I’m sure there will be heaps of photos from them when they get back.

Bob and I will be holding the fort back here. We are planning hikes, mountain bike rides along the trails and have a dinner cruise booked in the gorge. And we won’t be as exhausted as the Scott’s on Wednesday night!

Sounds fun. Are Karen and Kieran taking the inflatable kayak or hiring some boats at the gorge? Or even a double?
They are hiring canoes. You aren’t allowed to take private kayaks in the gorges.
Everyone needs to see the croc spots.
Haha, or not. Maybe as a wrap up post at the end 😉
