2023-08-12 Fifth State
A super early start this morning with coffees and fuel purchased in time for us to be on the road by 7. We smashed out the first 200km and hit Qld just after Brekky. We’ve now been in 5 states since the start of the trip. Only Victoria and Tassie to go 🙂 .
We then stopped at Camooweal with good signal to book our desired path for the remainder of the trip. We have changed the original inland plan to accommodate a coastal route home.
We arrived in Mt Isa early afternoon in time to explore the area. Today was short in time again with another time zone change. At least we are the same as home now so we aren’t waking the family with random texts anymore 🙂
Karen and Kieran arranged some tours while Bob and I headed to Lake Moonaburra which is a dammed lake in the Leichhardt River and provides water supply for the city.
This evening we headed to the Barkly Hotel which is where the chant that goes with the Angels song ‘Am I Ever Going To See Your Face Again’ was born (you know the chant, not going to put it here). I can fill you in with the story (or just google it) but a jilted DJ seems to be the source.
We set ourselves up at the pub to watch the Matilda’s game but it turns out Mt Isa doesn’t follow soccer. The pub was very accomodating for us and one of the screens was changed to the soccer and we and the security guard watched the game. We made ourselves known though 🙂 .
Tonight we are at Mary Kathleen. Explore time tomorrow.
