Today we were mugged!

By whales.

The whale watching cruise was amazing! Jason and Sue made a late night decision and came along on the tour with us. Lots of baby whales fattening up in the bay and learning their behaviours from Mum. We saw a 1.5 week old learning to breach but mostly just belly flopping 🙂 .

Then the mugging happened. 4 large whales just hung around the boat and kept swimming under it for about 45 minutes. They were clearly enjoying themselves, and we couldn’t move anywhere (not that we wanted to). My photos don’t do it justice, but it really was incredible!

It was a very enjoyable 4+ hours on the water.

This afternoon we have continued the drip feed south and have moved just over 200km down to the Sunshine Coast at Maroochy River. Karen and Kieran arrived before us after lunching at Rainbow Beach and spent some time this afternoon out exploring on their bikes. A sunset walk for us to stretch the legs and an early night for me after a couple of very big days! We have explore time tomorrow.

  1. The photos of the whales are fabulous! I had the opportunity to watch whales up close from an island in the Tasman Sea … an amazing experience! Kerrie … your photos are out of this world! Love love love! Thanks for sharing 🙂

    1. Wow! Thanks Robyn. It’s sometimes been a chore to come up with shots every day. But I know we’ll appreciate it when we are all home and can reflect on this amazing trip.

I could watch whales all day 🙂
