We started today back at the William Creek Hotel where we paid our ‘fine’ to the RFDS and signed the wall/ceiling. Karen and Kieran found their friend’s business card and decided to sign next to it…

Next event was our flight over Lake Eyre North. Great commentary and such interesting info on how the floods affect the surface of the lake. Interestingly all water from the lake is lost through evaporation – none soaks in to the ground. Photos don’t do the view justice but have thrown a few in anyway.

After the flight we started the trip towards Coober Pedy. No real sight seeing opportunities along this portion of the trip other that watching the change in vegetation.

After a solid 450km straight (over a few days) on dirt roads and a snapped radio aerial from the corrugations, we hit the tar again just near Coober Pedy. We took the obligatory town entry photo before checking into the local caravan park to make use of laundry facilities after a week off grid. We have discovered that as we head into the drier regions of the country, water is more scarce and there is a charge for filling the caravan tanks with water (just like diesel for the cars).

While setting up we met up with Jason and Sue who will be completing the next few weeks of the trip with us. The afternoon was spent making introductions, riding through town, and seeing our first Sturt Desert Peas.

This evening was a lovely change from red dust and flies. We all headed to an underground bar for a drink before enjoying dinner out for Bob’s birthday.

Tomorrow we will stay and explore the town before a couple of solid travel days to Uluru.
