2024-09-11 Halong Bay to Hanoi
After the disappointment of finding out our 3 day cruise was being reduced to less than 24 hours, we got up this morning and caught the tender across to Ti Top Island where we walked up 400 straight steps to get a vantage point from the peak. It was a heart starter for sure! And the weather stopped raining for the duration of the climb which was a bonus.
The 360 degree view from the top was once again amazing. A lovely way to finish our shortened visit.

We headed back to the boat for a long brunch while the boat headed back to port for our disembarkation. Then we retraced the trip from yesterday back to Hanoi while the weather continued to get worse and worse. By the time we arrived in Hanoi there were so many flooded streets – a combination of flash flooding due to rain and the Red River breaking its banks following the typhoon. Cars driving up footpaths to get out of the deepest water.

It was even more chaos than the usual traffic mayhem! These poor people are just not getting any relief. So much debris around town with typhoon clean-up lining every footpath.

After arriving back in Hanoi we set out with the rest of the tour group to visit the other train street in Hanoi. Not as visually impressive but oh my goodness so close when the train passed by.

We finished off the day with a lovely Vietnamese meal at a local restaurant. We have a very busy rescheduled day planned for tomorrow.

It’s a shame the weather wasn’t great but can see your making the most of it and as you say the locals are doing it I remember walking up those stairs well worth it. When you see the view. Stay safe and enjoy. The food is fantastic xx
Yes such incredible scenery. We are really enjoying the trip. I just hope there is some relief for the locals soon. It’s been the worst flooding in 20 years in the outskirts of Hanoi.
