OK so the humidity is really kicking in now.  If I was going to whinge I’d say I’m fully melting, but seeing as I’m not whinging, the weather is warming up beautifully 🙂 .

This morning we went back into the city and went for a tour of the Royal Palace.  Lots of gold, diamonds and silver floor tiles!  Cambodia’s king was not in residence today.  He has not had a coronation as he is not married.  He is the only surviving child of his mother (who was one of 6 wives and 19 concubines that his father had), however he does have 12 half siblings from other wives.

After the palace we all headed to the Central Markets for some free time.  Far better markets than the Russian Markets from yesterday, but still not my cup of tea.  The rest of the group did their best to support the local economy though 🙂 .

Then back to the boat for a traditional Cambodian dance and music display from the local orphanage.  Beautiful costumes and some very talented young people telling the stories from the past through the dance.

Lunch on the boat was traditional Cambodian street food where tarantulas as well as silk worms, crickets, frogs, grasshoppers and more were served up.  Bob and Sandra ate a grasshoppers but Glenn was happy to give a variety of insects a taste test.

For my favourite part of the day we moved further up the Mekong this afternoon for our second last night on the river.  I just love watching the changing scenery and the uses the river is put to.
