2024-09-24 Siem Reap
After our afternoon of swimming yesterday, today we said goodbye to some of our travelling group and left the river cruise to relocate to Siem Reap by bus. It was about a 4 hour transfer on variable quality roads. We had a few stops, the most significant being the Napa bridge that dates back to 1200.
We arrived at the hotel after another 7 course meal in Siem Reap. The afternoon was spent having a look around the hotel, doing a quick shop for essentials and a long swim. Of note was the mini mart with 20 cats in the shop. We chose to find another one…
Tonight was a great experience at the Phare Circus. It was a fun ride in a convoy of Tuk Tuks to get there.
The circus supports the education of disadvantaged youth academically and in the arts. Some of the graduates go on to be professional entertainers. We ate at the circus in their food area and were entertained by some young dancers doing a coconut dance, the monkey mermaid dance and a fishing dance.
The main event was a sensational acrobatic and musical event involving 9 unbelievable young people. The act had a story based around a nightclub. They performed some amazing acrobatic tricks including silks and hoops. There were definitely some heart in mouth moments.
