2023-07-01 Sunshine!
Well after so many days of cloud, wind and (less) rain the sun came out today! The van started collecting those solar rays and the batteries charged merrily away. The campground is so peaceful without the 20 or so generators running all through the day.
Last night Bob and I decided to stay at Middle Lagoon for our last paid night tonight as arriving at Broome on a Saturday afternoon wasn’t going to assist with generator purchasing, and after a phone call and some forum checking we realised that even the overflow campgrounds in Broome have people parked out the front waiting to get in. We played Canasta in the Scott’s van for the evening with Kieran and I emerging the victor’s this time.
This morning we had to all move sites (due to our scheduling error the other day), so no ridge site overlooking the water anymore. Karen decided to head out kayaking again and Kieran joined her while Bob and I watched from shore.

After lunch Karen and Kieran headed out to collect some more firewood while Bob and I walked the Middle Lagoon beach at low tide and in sunshine. Such a stark contrast to yesterday. Some of the rocks seriously look like they are from another planet.

This afternoon Kieran has spent time zooming with his family for his birthday. Bob and I have decided that now the sun has come back the generator purchase can wait until next week and we will continue with the original plan to stay at James Price Point from tomorrow.
We are still hopeful that the Gibb River Road will open back up in time for us to cross it as planned, however we have started getting some alternate itineraries together in case it doesn’t. Both lots of us will need to carefully consider which direction we want to head from Broome if the road doesn’t reopen in the next week.
