2023-07-05 Dinosaur Adventure
A few admin things this morning including hair cuts for both of us. I am trying to embrace the ‘grey’ nomad lifestyle, but after my cut today I’m not so sure I will last until I go back to work in a couple of months….
We booked a Dinosaur Adventure Cruise for the afternoon. It was run by the husband and wife owners of the company and was extremely informative about all things Broome and nature. We headed out and disembarked to see some massive brachiosaurus footprints – in one section there were 9 footprints! I’ve left a person in the photo to show the scale.
Barely 50m away there was a smaller footprint of a meat eating dinosaur (like T Rex, but not him). This one looks like the heel of the foot slid along a bit when it hit the mud as the print is quite elongated.
Finally, a demonstration of the weight and compression of the silt layers with a single step of the brachiosaurus. In the photo below the strata are quite horizontal until under the footprint where it all curves down. Quite amazing!
The rest of the cruise was spent in Dampier Creek along the mangroves with champagne, orange juice and charcuterie boards. A very pleasant afternoon.
We arrived back to shore about 2.5 hours after we left and the tidal movement was incredible. We had a 400m walk along the tidal flats to get back to where we started, and this was still 3 hours before low tide!
A 5 course Tapas menu was served once we were back – definitely no need for dinner for us tonight. We took advantage of that, and headed in to Town Beach to watch night 2 (of the 3 that occur this month) of the Staircase to the Moon. No camera this time, just sat and watched.
Tomorrow Karen and Kieran rejoin us for a day before we head off again. There will be some grocery purchasing and prep work required before departure on Friday.
