Today was another day that I have been looking forward to all trip and it did not disappoint!  We were off early to beat the heat of the day for the 4.5km hike.  Bob talked me into packing my full camera kit and tripod for the walk today (I have been surviving with the latest iphone for all hikes up until now).  We found  more aboriginal art (Bradshaw stick figures), explored the Merten Creek and cooled off in it when we got hot until we hit the Merten Falls.  A massive drop into a very deep gorge.  Difficult to photograph, but it was fun trying – except the green ant attack on me that I can fill you in on another time….

Then we continued towards Mitchell Falls.  We stopped off at some beautiful falls before we arrived where we sat under the water flow, got pushed downstream by the current and ate lunch.  We spent a good couple of hours enjoying ourselves here.

Then to the falls proper (after traversing the river above by foot and me coming a cropper with all my camera gear on my back….thankfully it and I survived it).  They are spectacular!  The best falls I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen a lot.  I really enjoyed playing with the camera for some shots here.  Maybe I’ll get one for the wall at home out of the selection.

Then we headed back to cool down at the lunch falls before Bob and I jumped in a helicopter for the trip back to camp and a view of the falls from above.  A great finish to the adventure.  

Karen and Kieran hiked back down to Little Merten Falls where we explored yesterday and Bob and I gathered wine and nibbles from camp and met them to sit at the top of the falls and watch sunset.  While we were there we decided to continue our never-ending game of Canasta and add to the locations this game has been played.  It was a really stupid idea!  Bob and I are now nearly 2000 points behind and have no hope of catching up 🙁 .

We walked back to camp with our head torches, made dinner and sat at the fire.  I think we will all sleep well tonight!
