2023-07-21 Munurru (King Edward River)
After our 5th night swagging this trip (I know, who’s counting? – I am 🙂 ), we packed up and started our retreat back towards Drysdale Station. The intent was to head towards King Edward campground and explore the river and a couple of aboriginal art sites before camping for the night with our reduced kit. We were more efficient than expected and the lure of our luxurious caravans only 100km of corrugations away was enough to convince me to head back to Drysdale a night early.
The day was still fun, though. First stop was a significant rock art display about 5km north of the campground (see featured photo as well as below). The art in this region is far more human-like with very distinctive characteristics.

From here we headed to the King Edward River where we walked the short distance to the falls. Pretty little falls, but the striking thing was the red and shiny texture to the rocks on the river bank. This is the first place I’ve ever seen stainless steel pool steps mounted directly to the river bank to allow swimmers to get in and out!

We grabbed an undercover picnic table for lunch and then decided to play Canasta at a new location. The annihilation was completed here. Karen and Kieran slaughtered Bob and I and the rest of them all went off for a swim in the river to celebrate 🙂 .
From here, we headed to the next aboriginal art site, which had similar samples of art as we wandered around.

We have arrived back at Drysdale Station this afternoon, retrieved the vans from storage and got stuck into some domestic chores. Karen cooked a chocolate cake on the camp oven which we all sampled for dessert. Yum.
We are staying here for another day and have booked dinner tomorrow night at the bar. Looking forward to a catch up day.

Mitchell Falls are amazing. Glad the bucket list item is ticked. And fabulous aboriginal art photos. Glad you’re back on the air for my morning read. Xoxo
They really are! Yes felt weird not posting each night, but the homework was still done (in a Word Document 🙂 ). It was great to catch up with your trip once we hit the vans again.
