2023-07-28 Mt Baldy
This morning we headed out earlyish to try to beat the heat of the day. Karen and Kieran rode the 4.5km from our river camp to the station and we drove (surprise, surprise). We decided on a relatively short hike to the Mt Baldy lookout with views of the Cockburn Ranges. We didn’t count on getting lost along the way! We corrected our path by walking directly up the side of the hill with the accompanying spinifex spiking of our legs along the way. Once we got to the top we sat and enjoyed the view while I worked on reducing the beetroot hue to my face…
On the way down we were interested to see how we could have possibly got it so wrong and discovered that someone had rotated the sign with direction arrows 90 degrees at a junction in the track. We didn’t feel so silly then.

We had lunch back at the station before heading back to camp for an afternoon of cards and Rummy. Dinner was planned at the vans and tomorrow we were anticipating another evening out at the station for our last night. Just as the sun set 6 4WDs filled to the brim rocked up and parked directly in front of our sunset view and proceeded to yahoo and enjoy themselves. We decided to rejig the program and dinner was brought forward to tonight….
We have had a resident long horn cow enjoying the grass near our camp for the afternoon. Not the longest horns we have seen, but still pretty impressive.

Love the photo of the termite mounds. The red soil and green vegetation is such a lovely contrast to the layers of white cloud on the blue sky. Just beautiful!
Thanks Louise. I walked through spinifex to get this one. Very spikey!
